DIVISION DETAILS:

Each grade division will be split up into a Level A bracket and a Level B bracket:

Level A - Competitive level teams that are tryout or coach/parent select teams.

Level B - Lower competitive teams that are randomly assigned by organizations or school teams.

During online registration, teams must select Level A or Level B. If registering via the paper form, teams must list Level A or Level B in the Additional Details/Special Instructions section. Coaches with questions about the appropriate level should contact Basketball Director Julie Haag at JHaag@ymcalincoln.org or 402-434-9214.

For seeding purposes, teams must also rate themselves from 1 to 5, with 5 being well above average and 1 being well below average. A rating must be selected during online registration, or listed in the Additional Details/Special Instructions section of the paper entry form.

Regulations and Guidelines

1. All teams are guaranteed a minimum of four scheduled games. Number of teams entered will determine how four games are played. i.e. round robin, pool play etc.

2. Federation High School rules will be followed with the following exceptions:

*20 minute running clock except for last two minutes of each half, (where clock will stop on all whistles) unless one team is ahead by more than 15 points. If lead falls below 15 points, clock will again stop. In addition, clock will stop on all technical fouls, injuries or timeouts. Clock does not restart until it would in a normal dead ball situation.

*Overtimes will be three minutes in length with running clock until last 30 seconds. Five-minute halftime and 5 minute pre-game warm-up. Game time is forfeit time (no grace period).

*3rd – 7th Grade boys and all girls will use an Intermediate ball (28.5”)

*Teams must wear jerseys with numbers on front or back. There are no number restrictions.

*Three full timeouts per game, one 30-second timeout.

*No full court press for 3rd and 4th grade divisions until final minute of game if score is within 5 points.

*No restriction on press or fast break (except 3rd or 4th grade) but only to a 15 point lead.

3. No locker rooms or game balls will be provided (each team must provide a game ball and officials will choose, teams are responsible for securing game ball after game.)

4. Players may play on only one team within a tournament age group. Players’ eligibility will be checked by a current grade card, if requested. Players may play “up” in an older age group. This could mean a player plays in the 8th grade tournament and the 9th-10th grade division. But they cannot play on two teams in the same 8th grade tournament (unless tournament combines).

5. Each team is required to provide a scorekeeper or clock operator for each game, failure to do so will result in forfeit.

6. All games will be officiated by high school registered officials.

7. Inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated! A referee may remove persons from the game or tournament for inappropriate behavior. Do not allow or condone poor sportsmanship. This includes coaches and parents!

8. With a running clock, a referee may stop clock with reason. Intentionally wasting time to shorten the game can be punished with a technical foul. This does not mean a team can’t use a delay offense at any time they choose. They simply can’t delay to line up for free throws or sub one player at a time to run the clock.

9. Each tournament site will have two directors. Please direct questions to these individuals during the weekend.

10. No food or drinks (other than bottled water/Gatorade for players) are allowed in the tournament facilities (concessions may or may not be provided by host sites).

11. Tiebreaker procedure is as follows: First criteria is head to head competition. If a three-way tie exists refer to individual bracket.

SCHEDULING NOTE: It is Nebraska Sports Council policy to not release team or divisional information until after the entry deadline. With teams waiting until on or near the deadline to enter, releasing data prior to that day does not provide an accurate picture of the tournament field and serves only to discourage those taking a wait-and-see approach.

All teams are encouraged to take advantage of the early entry discount and enter prior to that deadline, which in turn generates additional interest as teams attract one another. In the rare event that a division does not supply enough teams to warrant a viable tournament, teams will be given the option to move to another division, or be issued a refund. We appreciate the understanding of coaches and parents on this matter and would encourage teams to enter early and trust that there will be adequate competition in all divisions.
