entertainment and Olympic-style pageantry.

Parade of Athletes

The spirit of the Games fills the air as thousands of athletes of all ages march onto Secreast Field in the Parade of Athletes. The Olympic-style Parade of Athletes allows participants from each sport to walk proudly around the stadium. All who march in the parade of athletes will receive Sportsmanship For Life wristbands compliments of the Nebraska High School Sports Hall of Fame.

The Crevier Family

The Crevier Family, led by Bruce Crevier, his wife Diane and 12 kids, performs a show called Spin-tacular, featuring basketball handling/spinning, choreographed unicycle-riding and a finale mixing the two feats. The family has appeared at half-time shows at many NCAA and NBA locations around the country and on more than a dozen national television shows including Live with Regis & Kathy-Lee, the Today Show and the CBS Evening News. The Opening Ceremonies will be emceed by the celebrities of KOLN/KGIN Channel 10/11 and will feature skydivers, mascots, the Oath of Athletes, the lighting of the caldron by the Mystery Torchlighter, live music from Groove Puppet and a spectacular fireworks finale.

Participants and guests are again invited to the pre-Ceremonies party known as SportFest, which features a meal, inflatable games, vendor booths, celebrity athlete meet-n-greet and a sportsmanship rally, which is new to the event.

Admission for the Opening Ceremonies and SportFest is FREE for registered athletes via the All-Star Pass (included in the athlete packet or team box). Athletes must present All-Star Passes for free admission. Children under the age of 6 are also admitted for no charge. Students (K–12) may enter for $5. Admission, including dinner, is $10 for all other guests.


National Anthem Contest: Minden native and Nebraska Wesleyan student, Laynee Woodward, was the winner of the second annual CSG National Anthem Contest. Laynee’s audition won the public vote by collecting the most “Likes” on the Cornhusker State Games Facebook pageLaynee opened the 2012 Opening Ceremonies with her beautiful rendetion of the Star Spangled Banner. Click here to view Laynee's submission.

The 2012 annual Cornhusker State Games began with a unique torch-lighting ceremony as Erika Anschutz, one of the top archers in the world, ignited the caldron with a flaming arrow. The torch-lighting capped a ceremonies complete with skydivers, fireworks, a parade of athletes and a performance by New York’s Skyriders, a trampoline acrobat duo.

Five Husker track All-Americans, including discus thrower Tyler Hitchler from Fremont, hurdler Miles Ukaoma from Maize, KS, long- and triple-jumper Chris Phipps from Patterson, NJ, Crofton native discus-thrower Morgan Wilken and the Huskers’ most recent of 77 national champions, discus-thrower Chad Wright from Kingston, Jamaica. The group also led the athletes in the sportsmanship oath earlier in the program.
