Competition Format & Rules

Teams will be competing in the same age group they played during the 2017/2018 season.

U 8/9/10 will play 7v7 with two 25-minute halves and a 3-minute halftime. Offside will not be called.

U 11/12 will play 9v9 with two 25-minute halves and a 3-minute halftime.

U13/U14 will play 11v11 with two 35-minute halves and a 5-minute halftime.

U15 Competitive and up will play 11v11 with two 40-minute halves and a 5-minute halftime.

Teams will be bracketed by level of competition. Teams will be scheduled a minimum of three games with bracket winners advancing in medal divisions. All teams guaranteed three games.

Director reserves the right to shorten/suspend play as deemed necessary, combine/cancel divisions based on the number of entries, and to reclassify teams into appropriate divisions. All teams will be notified of any changes.

PLAYER ELIGIBILITY: The Cornhusker State Games Soccer tournament IS NOT currently sanctioned by the Nebraska State Soccer Association or United States Youth Soccer Association (USYSA). There will be no formal check-in process before teams play. However, should the age eligibility of a team member be challenged, players will be asked to provide some type of photo identification. If this happens, it would be helpful to have each player’s USYSA player pass (as these carry the age group for which they qualify) or some other photo ID. Players who cannot produce acceptable ID/proof of age may be declared ineligible.

LAWS OF PLAY: FIFA Laws of the Game will govern Play, except where amended by the tournament rules.

PROTESTS: No protests will be allowed.

REFEREES: A single-referee system will be used for all 7v7. Two officials will be used in 9v9 games. 11v11 games will have three person crews. Referee abuse will not be tolerated during the tournament. Players, coaches or fans that abuse referees will be removed from the venue for the length of the tournament. All abuse incidents will be reported to the tournament director within 24 hours of the end of games.

Whether you are playing, coaching, or spectating, the Cornhusker State Games would like to remind you to have fun and KEEP IT POSITIVE. For more information, check out our SPORTSMANSHIP CAMPAIGN.

Roster Info

Teams can make roster updates.

The deadline to make roster updates is 5 p.m. on TUESDAY, JULY 17. Rosters are considered FINAL after that date.

Roster additions after July 6 will include the per-player entry fee, plus a $10 late fee PER PLAYER.

Teams that register online are able to login (link available soon) and make roster substitutions free of charge. Teams that register via the paper entry form will be charged a $10 processing fee to substitute players. Teams are strongly encouraged to register online to eliminate any roster change fees.

Rosters WILL be checked during tournament. Please make sure your roster is current prior to the July 17 deadline.

No player is allowed to play on more than one team unless second team is Men’s Open, Mixed, Over 30, or High School.

If registering online, the minimum roster size (based on division) must be entered to advance to check-out.

TEAM WAIVER: The team waiver form must be signed by each team member, or by parent/guardian if the participant is 18 years or younger. If the team is registered online, and the online waiver for each player is clicked as ‘Accepted’, no printed/signed waiver is needed. All team waivers must be clicked as ‘Accepted’ or submitted to the Cornhusker State Games office by TUESDAY, JULY 17 to be eligible for competition. Printable waiver forms and further instructions found here.

Registration Fees & Deadlines

$44 per player until July 6

ENTRY FEE INCLUDES: Competition in the 2018 Cornhusker State Games; White cotton athlete shirt (micro-fiber or soft cotton lightweight tri-blend upgrade available); Pass for free admission to SportFest, the Opening Ceremonies, and all competition venues; Sponsor gifts and coupons.

COACHES: Head coach will receive the athlete packet free of charge, and will receive a medal if awarded. Assistant coaches must be included on the registration and pay the entry fee to receive the athlete packet, medal, and free admission to competition sites.

TEAM ONLINE REGISTRATION NOTE: When registering your team online, please note that the system will ask you to enter your team name and roster prior to selecting your sport and division. In the INDIVIDUAL Shipping dropdown menu, be sure to select “TEAM” for each team member. If you wish to have your team packet shipped, you will select that in the TEAM Shipping dropdown menu.

PAPER ENTRY FORMS: Paper entry forms will be accepted with a $10 processing fee per team. Registering online saves time, money and trees. If registering via the paper entry form, please rate your team as being Above Average, Average or Below Average. List this information in the Additional Details/Special Instructions section of the entry form.

SCHEDULING NOTE: It is Nebraska Sports Council policy to not release team or divisional information until after the entry deadline. With teams waiting until on or near the deadline to enter, releasing data prior to that day does not provide an accurate picture of the tournament field and serves only to discourage those taking a wait-and-see approach.

All teams are encouraged to take advantage of the early entry discount and enter prior to that deadline, which in turn generates additional interest as teams attract one another. In the rare event that a division does not supply enough teams to warrant a viable tournament, teams will be given the option to move to another division, or be issued a refund. We appreciate the understanding of coaches and parents on this matter and would encourage teams to enter early and trust that there will be adequate competition in all divisions.
